Shanghai Entomological Museum C.A.S

Shanghai Insect Museum was formerly the Insect Section of Shanghai Heude Museum founded by French priest Pierre Heude in 1868. The new museum was invested and built by C.A.S, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and Xuhui District People’s Government, and has been open to the public since December 2004. The museum collects more than 100 million insect specimens and possesses nearly 20,000 pieces of exhibition and education equipment. Its endangered and rare quarantine insect specimens are an important part of C.A.S’ biological specimen collections. The museum is composed of exhibition halls involving introduction, insect life, insect world, insect-and-human relationship, insect culture, etc., and functional areas such as multimedia room, touch-screen Q&A game area and interactive laboratory. The newly-built insect room (greenhouse) has also been put into operation. The interactive laboratory is equipped with 40 stereo microscopes and multiple artificial climate chambers, and irregularly holds insect-themed lectures. The museum is Shanghai Scientific and Technological Education Popularization Base, National Adolescent “Entering the World of Science” Scientific and Technological Activity Demonstration Base and National Adolescent Scientific and Technological Education Base.
