Shanghai Normal University Museum

Shanghai Normal University Museum was built on the basis of the Cultural Relics Showroom of the Department of History, and has been open to the public since May 2002. It collects jadeware, bronzes, ceramics, rubbings, calligraphy, paintings, Thangkas, clothing, embroideries, etc., including many treasures. Most of the cultural relics are from the Palace Museum in Beijing, and some are from fellow universities such as Shandong University as well as personal donations. Jade bi of the neolithic era features regular shape and smoothness and reflects higher level of technology; Duke Mao Tripod and San Family Plate rubbings are the initial fine rubbings; scrolls of scriptures written by Sui monks and scriptures translated by Xuanzang are rare cultural relics; Tibetan Amitayus scripture written on Yangnao Paper in golden ink and Tibetan Buddhism Tantric scripture are rare treasures; most of the Thangkas were made in the Qing Dynasty, with ethnic characteristics; in terms of paintings, Wang Yuanqi and Wu Li’s landscape paintings are also masterpieces; Paintings of Qing ancestral temples and figures are also rare exhibits in Shanghai; imperial kuan yao porcelain is particularly exquisite and gorgeous, showing unique royal bearing. Shanghai Normal University Museum has become a window for foreign cultural exchanges and inter-university exchanges. It has received many leaders, experts, overseas students and tour groups from domestic and foreign famous universities as well as officials of consulates of the United States and Egypt in Shanghai.
