Etiquette Gate of the Qing Dynasty
Located at No.729 South 2nd Zhongshan Road, it was built during the late Qing Dynasty. Due to urban construction, the main buildings of Ancestral Temple of the Shen Family have been demolished. The residual etiquette gate covers 10 sq m. The gate arch is 4.5 m high, and the gate is 2.7 m high and 2.7 m wide. The left and right bounding walls are both 4 m wide, and the gate arch is 0.5 m deep. There are layers of corbelled lines and brick carving ornamentation under the eaves, as well as bounding walls on both sides, with black tiles on the top. The existing etiquette gate is one of the rare folk buildings identified in Shanghai, and is not common even in central urban area. The building reflects the historical condition of urban areas to the south of Zi-Ka-Wei, and has a high historical specimen value. The Etiquette Gate of the Qing Dynasty was announced by Xuhui District People's Government as Cultural Relic Preservation Unit of Xuhui District on November 30, 2011.
