Former Residence of Zhao Dan
Located at No.8 Hunan Road, the garden residence of the modernist architectural style was built in the 1930s. It is three-floor brick-and-concrete structure. The east entrance has an awning, while the south second and third floor has an overhanging balcony. Zhao Dan lived on the third floor from 1962 to 1979. Zhao Dan (1915~1980), born in Feicheng, Shandong Province, was a famous film artist. He joined China Left-Wing Dramatist Alliance and Shanghai Amateur Dramatist Association in 1933. After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, he acted the leading role in Nie Er, Eternity in Flames and other films. He once served as committee member of the third and fourth session of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, committee member of the first session of China Film Association and Vice Chairman of Shanghai Branch, representative of the first, second and third session of NPC, the fifth CPPCC National Committee member. The building is now an ordinary residence. The Former Residence of Zhao Dan was announced by Xuhui District People's Government as Cultural Relic Preservation Unit of Xuhui District on November 30, 2011.
