Former Residence of Yan Fuqing

Located at No.4, Lane 40, Wukang Road. The garden residence of the English country villa style was built in 1923. It is fake-three-floor brick-and-wood structure. The combined pitched roofs are very steep, covered by red flat-tiles. Yan Fuqing lived here from 1943 to 1950. Yan Fuqing (1882~1970), a native of Xiamen, was a medical educator, public hygienist and one of the founders of Chinese Medical Association. He founded Hunan Medical University, Shanghai Medical University, Zhongshan Hospital and Shanghai No.1 Pulmonary Hospital, and entered into an agreement with Chinese Red Cross on Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Medical University, making outstanding contributions to the cause of medical education in China. The building started to be rented by the Administration Division of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee in 1956, and is now managed by Xufang Group. The Former Residence of Yan Fuqing was announced by Xuhui District People's Government as Cultural Relic Preservation Unit of Xuhui District on November 17, 2009.
