Former Residence of Zhang Leping

Located at No.3, Lane 288, Wuyuan Road, it was built in 1946. It is fake-three-floor brick-and-wood structure. The living room on the second floor was the studio of Zhang Leping. Zhang Leping (1910~1992), born in Haiyan, Zhejiang Province, was the pioneer of children’s comic strip in China, and one of the most prominent cartoonists in contemporary China. He once served as Vice Chairman of Shanghai Artists Association and Vice Chairman of Shanghai Branch of Chinese Artists Association, as well as director, executive director and consultant of Chinese Artists Association, committee member of Chinese Federation of Literary and Art Circles, CPPCC National Committee member, etc. He was known as “Father of Sanmao” for his famous Sanmao comic series which have influenced generations of young readers in China. The Former Residence of Zhang Leping was announced by Xuhui District People's Government as Cultural Relic Preservation Unit of Xuhui District on December 4, 2008.
