Engineering Building

Completed in January 1932, the Engineering Building was designed by international architect Hudec, and was an early representative of the Art Deco style. The building had two floors at the beginning, and was expanded to a three-floor building in 1960. With a square-shaped plane, the building was originally known as the Museum. During the 37th anniversary of Jiaotong University in March 1933, the inauguration ceremony for the Engineering Building was made up, and the Industrial Railway Exhibition was held meanwhile. In December 1933, radio inventor Guglielmo Marconi and his wife personally erected Marconi antenna copper pillar on the lawn of the Museum of the Engineering Building. In 1947, to commemorate the former president Ye Gongchuo, the Engineering Building was renamed as Gongchuo Building. In 1950, the name Engineering Building was started to be used again. The Engineering Building was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on October 31, 2005, and as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on April 4, 2014.
