Former Site of Pushi Mansion
Located at No.160 Taiyuan Road, it was built in 1928. It is a garden structure of the French Renaissance architectural style composed of a main building and four annex buildings. The main building has a fake-three-floor brick-and-wood structure, with a forward-protruding porch at the middle entrance. The building was originally the private villa of a British madam. On December 20, 1945, General Marshall, the special envoy of US President Truman, started to live here. Following the breakdown of KMT-CCP negotiation on November 8, 1946, Marshall left Shanghai on January 7, 1947. In 1953, Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government took over Taiyuan Villa. In 1956, it was rebuilt into Taiyuan Hotel to receive senior distinguished guests. The Former Site of Pushi Mansion was announced by Shanghai Municipal People's Government as Shanghai Municipality Outstanding Heritage Architecture on September 23, 1999, and as Shanghai Municipality Cultural Relics Protection Unit on April 4, 2014.
