Gold and Silver Enamel
The production technique of gold and silver enamel ware is part of traditional Chinese filigree, and is a top priority of gold and silver ware in China. In 2011, gold and silver enamel ware is listed by Xuhui District People’s Government in the list of District-level Intangible Cultural Heritage in Xuhui District. After gold and silver enamel ware was introduced into China, during the Qing dynasty, it served as royal ware and national gifts, with top technological level. After the founding of the Republic of China, this royal art was spread to the folk. Gold and silver enamel ware is multicolored enamel ware clinkered with quartz and feldspar as the main glaze after mold-making with precious metal. According to manufacturing methods and process characteristics, it is divided into two categories: filigree enamel and painted enamel. Gold and silver are made into the ware body alone or together. Then patterns made with gold and silver filigree were weld on the body. Meanwhile, superior colored enamel is inlaid into the patterns, and mixed fine enamel is used to draw various shapes. They are then repeatedly fired and inlaid with all kinds of beautiful diamonds, gemstones, pearls and agate as the finishing touch. The entire process is composed of 30~40 steps and covers the process philosophy of “studying the nature of things”. As a result, the products are beautiful and magnificent, with a royal style. They are high-end art treasure for people to use, appreciate and collect, and has both wealth and art value.
