Yan Acupuncture

Acupuncture and moxibustion is one of the representatives of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity recognized by the UNESCO. Yan acupuncture and moxibustion has been innovating and influencing Shanghai, northern Zhejiang, southern Jiangsu and other regions. In 2013, it was listed by Xuhui District People’s Government in the list of the fifth batch of District-level Intangible Cultural Heritage in Xuhui District. Acupuncture and moxibustion was first seen in Huangdi Neijing of the Warring States era. In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion is a kind of treatment by acupuncturing or moxibusting acupoints, which is unique to China. Yan acupuncture and moxibustion has many unique insights and achievements in acupuncture and moxibustion, acupoint matching, main and collateral channels, etc. Yan acupuncture manipulation is agile and smooth, with unconventional reinforcing and reducing methods. Yan successors have created a treatment standard of “Yan suppuration moxibustion”, and used modern technology to conduct experimental research, providing objective evidence for suppuration moxibustion. The back governor meridian and bladder meridian stream acupoint of Yan acupuncture and moxibustion correspond to ancient books, but have differences with modern acupuncture and moxibustion textbooks, and are of great significance in improving clinical efficacy. The viewpoint of using “acupuncture, moxibustion and medicine” advocated by Yan has been accepted by many acupuncture and moxibustion doctors and patients, and achieved good results. Yan acupuncture and moxibustion has inspired many generations, and has important clinical value, so it should occupy its corresponding position in the history of the development of acupuncture and moxibustion.
