据《蜀王本纪》等史书记载:战国晚期秦惠文王向蜀王赠送会便金的石牛。蜀王派五丁力士开凿蜀道,迎入石牛。相传此地为蜀王置便金石牛之处,故名金牛坝,“金牛”之地名亦由此而来。“石牛便金”与“五丁开山”是古蜀先民与中原地区经济文化交流的佳证。

According to historical records, such as the Biography of King of Shu Kingdom, King Huiwen of the Qin State presented stone ox able to defecate gold to Shu King in the late Warring States Period. To transport the stone ox into land of Shu Kingdome, Shu King sent five herculeses to cut mountains and build roads. This place is named so because it is reportedly the place where the ox is laid. “Stone Ox Defecating Gold” and “Five Hercules Cutting Mountains” form a proof for economic and cultural exchange between people of Shu Kingdom and Central China.
