33

        Tonghui Gate

In the Qing Dynasty, the west gate of the city wall of Chengdu was too far north that it was inconvenient for access of the civilians. After the Xinhai Revolution, Chengdu authority set up a new gate in the direction to Erxian Temple in 1913 for civilian’s convenience to appreciate the Flower Show. It was named Tonghui Gate after the “road for merchants, workers and farmers to make wealth” in Zuo's Commentary - The Second Year of Mingong. It was known as the West Gate and was demolished together with the old city wall in 1958.
