奎星又称魁星，自唐宋以来被视为主管人间文运之神，受到追求科举功名的读书人顶礼膜拜。此街原为清代少城的光明胡同，因为胡同西头关帝庙中建有奎星阁，民国初年改名奎星楼街。著名数学家、相对论在我国的最早传播者魏时珍长期居住在此街原13号。

        Kuixinglou Street

        Kuixing was regarded as the God of Literature since the Tang and Song Dynasties and worshiped by intellectuals pursuing imperial examination and fame. It was the Guangming Lane of Shaocheng (Inner City) in the Qing Dynasty, renamed to Kuixinglou Street in the early the Republican Period for Kuixing Pavilion built in the Guan Yu Temple located in the west alley. Wei Shizhen, a famous Mathematician and earliest disseminator of relativity theory in China, resided in former #13 of this street.
