东马棚街和西马棚街原来是清代少城的仁德胡同和广德胡同，其中有满蒙八旗兵营的马棚，辛亥革命后改今名。1914年，四川公立外国语专门学校开办于东马棚街。1919——1923年，巴金（当时名李尧棠）在此校学习，他最早的一批文学作品即在此问世。

        Dongmapeng Street

        Dongmapeng Street and Ximapeng Street were Rende Lane and Guangde Lane of Shaocheng (Inner City) in the Qing Dynasty respectively with stables of ba qi’s barracks, renamed after the Xinhai Revolution. Sichuan Public College of Foreign Language was established here in 1914. Ba Jin (then named Li Yaotang) studied here from1919-1923 and published his earliest works here.
